Equine Sports Massage Therapy
Locations and Dates:
Level I, II and III clinics are held on an on-going basis throughout the year. These clinics take place on site at the Indian Creek Equine Rehabilitation Center in Worden, Illinois. They also include hands-on work at local barns and arenas. Go to our Directions Page for directions to the Rehab Center.
Class Description:
“The most practical helping hand is your own hand, because it is always there when you need it.”
(Jack Meagher)
Muscular therapy was originally developed as a preventative sports therapy treatment,
in contrast to physical therapy which addresses a problem after an injury has occurred.
Sports therapy is for athletes who are trying to achieve and maintain maximum efficiency.
Because the majority of strain-type injuries are cumulative in nature these injuries are also
preventable when caught early and managed appropriately.
Due to the high demand for instruction in massage therapy, in depth classes are forming
this spring for HOLISTIC EQUINE SPORTS MASSAGE THERAPY. A series of three 2-day
seminars will be conducted covering all aspects of stress point muscular massage therapy.
These courses include discussion of the anatomy and physiology of the major muscle groups
and the twenty-five common stress points. The courses will focus on the twelve basic
equine athletic movements and the effects of strain and exertion upon the musculo-skeletal
system. The therapy will be demonstrated with an accuracy that enables the horse owner
to treat the cause of muscle pain instead of its symptoms. Students will learn how to recognize
the onset of specific and common muscular problems and to apply massage therapy appropriately.
Classes will be held on site at the clinic with a maximum of eight participants in each
seminar, working in teams of two. Each team will share one of Suzie's horses, applying the
techniques of massage therapy. A certificate of completion will be given at the end of each seminar ( Level I, II, and III).
Fees and costs : $350.00 per 2-day seminar. Textbook, hand-outs and charts will be
furnished. A picnic-style meal is provided for hungry students who want to work
through lunch.
