I. Criteria of Assessment
Changes in the following areas:
Attitude:
- Ears Pinned during Saddling
- Nervous Under Saddle
- Cranky, Rebellious
- Bucking, etc
Performance/Gait:
- Shortened Stride
- Difficulty with Collection
- Difficulty with Lead Changes
Muscle Development:
- Over Developed Neck and Gluteals
- Atrophy of the Trapezeus (Below Withers)
- Lack of Topline Muscling
Spinal Changes:
- 'Roach Back'
- 'Sway Back'
- Spondylosis
- Prominent Sacrum
Other Factors:
- Dental
- Farrier
- Saddle and Bridal
II. Evaluating the Horse: Visually and by Palpatation
Things to Look For:
- Symmetry of Muscle Development
- Muscle Atrophy
- Balanced Topline
- Pelvic Rotation
Things to Feel For:
- Large Muscle Groups, Specific Motor Points
- Friction Soreness Vs. Deep Muscle Soreness
- Palpatating the Saddle Area
III. Therapeutic Techniques for the Layman
- Manual Massage
- Therapeutic Exercises: Tummy Tucks, Logan's Point
- Magnetic Therapy: Wraps, Mag Boys
